Pricing

How much does a website cost in the UK?

There is no single price for a website. The cost depends on what you need it to do. Here is a plain-English guide to what drives the price, what to budget for after launch, and how to compare quotes fairly.

What you are actually paying for

A website is more than a pretty design. Most projects include some mix of these:

  • Design: how the site looks and feels on phones, tablets and computers.
  • Build: turning the design into a fast, working website with forms, maps and any other features.
  • Content: writing the words, preparing photos and organising pages.
  • Search set-up: page titles, descriptions and the technical basics that help Google understand your site.
  • Launch and support: connecting your domain, testing everything and fixing problems in the weeks after go-live.

The costs people forget

Beyond the build itself, a website has running costs. They vary by provider, so always check current prices, but as a guide:

  • Domain name: your web address. Common UK domains usually cost a few pounds to around £15 a year.
  • Hosting: where the site lives. Basic hosting for a small site is typically a few pounds a month. We also offer hosting, so your website and its care can be in one place.
  • Business email: addresses like name@yourbusiness.co.uk. These are often included with hosting, or cost a small monthly fee per mailbox.
  • Maintenance: updates, security checks and changes after launch. This is where a care plan helps.

Three common ways to get a website

Build it yourself

Website builders are the cheapest in money and the most expensive in time. They work well for very simple needs if you enjoy the process and have the patience to learn them.

Hire a freelancer or small studio

You get a custom result and a person who knows your project. A good small studio will give you a fixed price, a clear list of what is included and support after launch.

Hire a large agency

This suits big, complex projects with many stakeholders. The budgets are usually much higher than a small business needs.

What makes a project cost more

  • Taking payments or running a shop, including stock, delivery options and tax.
  • Booking systems and calendars that need to stay in sync.
  • Customer accounts, logins and private areas.
  • Integrations with other tools you already use.
  • A fully custom design instead of a streamlined layout.
  • Lots of pages, or moving a large amount of existing content.
  • Copywriting and photography if you need them created for you.

How to get an accurate quote

  1. Decide the one main thing the website should do: get calls, bookings, enquiries or sales.
  2. List the pages you think you need.
  3. Collect a few websites you like and note why.
  4. Have your logo, photos and key text ready, or ask for help preparing them.
  5. Ask every provider what is included, who owns the finished website and what support you get.
